14 April 2014 - We're really looking forward to the first event at the new Melton Riverside Community Orchard. And what better way to celebrate the creation of the orchard than to have a "Big Lunch".

The aim of The Big Lunch is to "get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun".

The Big Lunch has been running for six years and last year over 3 million people got involved in Big Lunches.

With warmer evenings and longer days, June is the ideal time of year to dust off that hamper and start the picnic season. So why not bring your picnic along and your family too (if you're willing to share). The picnic is on Sunday, 1 June from 11am to 3pm and is free to all.

"A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown street party with food, music and decoration."

There'll be a chance to learn about the local flora and fauna with small scale surveys and activities for kids big and small.

Organised by Transition Woodbridge working with Suffolk Coastal District Council and Suffolk Wildlife Trust. To find out more about the Big Lunch at the Community Orchard email Transition Woodbridge (ttwoodbridge@gmail.com).
